A Lively Learning Experience

  • Given a computer with internet access, eight grade Social Studies students will be able to successfully evaluate websites using the 5 W's of Website evaluation and will receive a score of 80% or higher on the online Assessment.

  • Students will use a computer with Internet access to research what it is to be a global citizen and will create a mind mapping tool to draw connections between global citizenship and how individual action can be taken on a local,national, and global.

  • The eight grade Social Studies students will use a computer with Internet access to create a pamphlet using Microsoft Word, to describes their vision as a global citizen in a local/global manner, and will present to classmates and parents using Periscope to broadcast.

Most individuals learn best by doing, and through personal hands-on experience. The discovery method encourages higher-level thinking, rather than recalling information.  This learning module requires students to analyze information and develop a deeper understanding of the content with aligning learning outcomes with Bloom's Taxonomy. Active involvement during learning provides intrinsic motivation while acquiring critical observation and comparison skills, utilizing technological tools to strengthen digital literacy and promote real world 21st Century learning. These learning activities are designed for students to employ critical thinking skills, the opportunity to collaborate with peers, investigate and search for information, decision-making, and the reorganizing existing knowledge.
