Learning Activity 1 - Digital Literacy

The 5 W's of Web Site Evaluation


Learning Objective: Given a computer with internet access, eight grade Social Studies students will be able to successfully evaluate websites using the 5 W's of Website evaluation and will receive a score of 80% or higher on the online Assessment.
Learning Goal: By the end of this lesson you will learn the fundamentals of digital citizenship and how to make good decisions when using  the Internet to perform research.

In a group discussion and using your handout, discuss the importance in of digital literacy and maintaining the ability to successfully evaluate a website.

On your own, access the interactive learning activity, Digital Compass and expand your knowledge of digital literacy and evaluating Web sites. Before you begin the learning activity, please take the time to review the Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship.
