Challenges of Redesign
The redesign process was both challenging and rewarding. Rather than modifying the existing module, opted to start an entirely new module from scratch to make sure all multimedia is incorporated thoughtfully and ethically. To integrate multimedia and follow the recommended guidelines for Fair Use, components previously used are now eliminated if unable to adequately source and made sure to link images to the website in which it originated. The particular activity selected for this assignment was a learning module that highlights the understanding and significance of digital literacy. The topic of digital literacy is a vital element to include in the curriculum; students must have a firm grasp on how to use technology in an appropriate and responsible manner (Ribble, 2013). Digital literacy contributes to student awareness and the ability to utilize technological tools in a way that is respectful, safe, and secure. In additional, this assignment provides an excellent opportunity for reworking the learning module in a manner that reflects newly acquired knowledge on the ethical use of technology that includes Fair Use Guidelines and Copyright. Moving forward with more awareness and be cognizant of the guidelines for Fair Use of multimedia, further, influences the overall goal of developing students to practice a high level of digital literacy.
Developing instruction/curriculum through the platform of Wix.com is both a challenging and exciting experience. In creating learning activities using various platforms such as Blogger, Webquest, and Wikis this has been the most difficult in regards to the designing portion of the process. Though, when reflecting upon the outcomes that have resulted with the use of each platform, the frustration and dedication have been very gratifying and pleased with the results thus far. This redesign proves to be a perfect culmination as it is an accurate representation of what I have learned throughout this degree program.
Conclusion
By incorporating educational technology in the classroom, it allows for more options in the delivery of information, providing the opportunity for greater student engagement and comprehension (Vaughn, 2007). It also provides the ability for students to practice and strengthen digital literacy skills, which is an essential element for setting students up for success. Students can also learn how to utilize technology in an ethical and responsible manner as teachers can model on how to adhere to the guidelines of Copyright and Fair Use when implementing the uses of technology.
